FOLLOWING THE ORGANIZATION OF SEVERAL SUCCESSFUL
EUROPEAN SERIES TOURNAMENTS IN ZAGREB
World-class volleyball coming to Rab: VIP FIVB
CHALLENGER LOPAR, RAB
(July 8 – 11 2004)
ZAGREB (CRO), July 1st, 2004 – The first
world series beach volleyball tournament in Croatia will
be held from Thursday, July 8th, till Sunday,
July 11th, 2004 at the Paradise beach in
Lopar on the island of Rab.
FIVB Challenger Lopar is the most attractive beach
volleyball tournament in Croatia this year, where every
volleyball fan will be able to enjoy the finesse of the
best Croatian players and some of the most attractive
world players. The organizers are expecting exciting,
high quality matches, interrupted only by the relaxed
mingling of players, fans and tourists at the beautiful
beach on Rab.
Fourteen of the highest ranked players on the FIVB world
chart are entering the tournament directly, two pairs go
in through wildcards, while the remaining eight places
will be filled by the best from the qualification
rounds.
Qualification rounds are scheduled for Thursday, while
the main draw is to be held on Friday, Saturday and
Sunday, which is reserved for the semi-finals and
finals.
Total prize money for the Lopar VIP FIVB Challenger 2004
is $ 30.000, the highest prize money awarded at a beach
volleyball tournament in Croatia to date.
PRE-TOURNAMENT FAVORITES
The
biggest pre-tournament favorites are the Brazilian pair
de Jesus Magalhães/Silva
Azevedo
who played in the main draw of the recently held Grand
Slam in Berlin. Possible dark-horses, and a potential
tournament surprise, are the excellent Australian pair
Bishop/Allison who have never played a world series
tournament before.
Along with the premium sports event, the fans will be
able to enjoy in numerous additional events, parties,
promotions and prize games.
As a traditional sponsor of the Croatian beach
volleyball league and the Cup, along with international
tournaments, VIPnet is actively contributing to the
popularization of beach volleyball in Croatia.
Considering the timing and places chosen as sites for
the VIP tour 2004 (national league), beach volleyball is
starting to significantly contribute to the tourist
