| Australian's
Prosser/Zahner win their first FIVB
tournament! Berlin
- 1 July, Perennial World Tour
veterans from 'downunder', Julien Prosser
and Lee Zahner, claimed their first World
Tour victory today.
The Australians first surprised and
delighted the packed stadium by defeating
the top seeded Emanuel/Tande (BRA) in the
semifinal 3-1 (28:26,14:21, 15:11), then
came up against the determined Swiss
pairing of Paul and Martin Laciga - who
had made, but lost, the last two World
Tour finals.
In a nerve-racking and often fiery
three-set encounter, the Australians kept
their cool to come from behind to win the
day 2-1 (18:21, 28:26 , 22:20). Although
the Swiss team had 6 match balls in the
second set they lost it finally due to a
red card against Martin Laciga for pulling
down the net in anger.
The
Swiss team of Kober/Heuscher presented
themselves as fearless opponents against
the much favoured Brazilian team of Emanuel/Tande
in the playoff for third place. In the end however the
Brazilians won by two sets (21:16, 21:18)
Berlin again turned on a great show
with 32.000 spectators turning up to
support the event.
