Olympic Improvement Highlights Prague 2008 Open Competition

A "thankful" Grzegorz Fijalek after his victory for Poland with Mariusz Prudel after upsetting top-seeded Harley Marques and Pedro Salgado of Brazil

PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC, May 8, 2008 - With nine-plus events remaining on the qualifying schedule for the Beijing 2008 Olympics, the main goal for teams competing in this week’s US$175,000 Prague 2008 Open is improving a Beach Volleyball pair’s best-eight finishes on the SWATCH FIVB World Tour.  For some teams like the Americans, the Prague 2008 Open helps satisfy the requirement of posting eight SWATCH FIVB World Tour placements before the conclusion of the process July 20 in Marseille, France.  For tandems from nations like Brazil, Germany and the Netherlands, the Beijing process is more competitive since a country can only qualify two teams per gender for the Summers Games.
