|

Participants during practical session |
Lausanne, April 21, 2008 – The Gambia Volleyball Association has been restructuring its operation since the beginning of this year and the level I FIVB Coaches course was therefore well received in April shortly after the Federations Super Cup Tournament. The presence of the two FIVB instructors, Mr. Kurt Radde from Germany and Mr. Bernard Denis from the Seychelles, to conduct the Level I Coaches Course in Banjul, Gambia from March 31 to April 11 was an important event for developing new coaches for Gambian Volleyball. After a well organised opening ceremony, the FIVB Instructors taught seventeen participants representing various regions of the country. The course covered the most important topics of modern Volleyball tactics including the role of the coach and how to form a team.
Banjul, being the main urban area and capital of Gambia, was a truly unique location for this course. As the smallest country on the African mainland, Gambia is bordered by Senegal to the north, east and south and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. The FIVB has scheduled a second course on Refereeing in Gambia later this year.

Lausanne, 10 April, 2008 – Thirty eager participants recently took part in a Coaches Course conducted in Santo Antáo, Cape Verde from March 20 to 28. Being the first course held in Cape Verde for several years, the FIVB has opened the door to new development opportunities for the National Federation of the Republic of Cape Verde. FIVB Instructor Mr. Mario Ernesto Mongelos Salazar from Paraguay conducted the course in Spanish to participants comprised of teachers, coaches and athletes. While the course was successfully organised, it revealed that there is room for further development in the performance of athletes and the education of coaches.
The Republic of Cape Verde consists of nine inhabited islands and several uninhabited islands located off the west of Africa. It was fortunate that the course was able to be run in such an ideal setting and should have further valuable impacts for this region.
