The Netherlands booked a 3-1 victory over Romania in the first preliminary pool B match of the 2002 Women's World Championship. The win over the Rumanians was the victory the Dutch team of head coach Angiolino Frigoni needed to make the first step to a great result in this 24 teams event in Germany.

Canada defeated Egypt in straight sets in the Pool B clash of the Women's World Championship in Germany.
