Australia pick up latest ticket to 2018 World Championship
Australia join Japan in qualifying to the 2018 FIVB World Championship from the Canberra pool of the Asian qualifiers.
Japan had qualified a day earlier after beating Australia in five sets to stay undefeated and top the pool.
Australia will be making their sixth straight and seventh overall appearance at the World Championship in the competition to be organised jointly by Italy and Bulgaria.
Their best finish was a 15th place in 2014 in Poland.
Thailand beat New Zealand 3-1 (25-20, 25-16, 25-27, 25-19) in the other match of the closing day in Canberra, but both teams were already out of contention.
The final ranking of the Canberra pool:
1. Japan 4-0 (qualified)
2. Australia 3-1 (qualified)
3. Chinese Taipei 2-2
4. Thailand 1-3
5. New Zealand 0-4
Pool A of the Asian qualifiers, with Iran, China, Korea, Qatar and Kazakhstan, will be held 10-14 August in Tehran for two more spots from Asia to Italy/Bulgaria.

Japan and Australia join hosts Italy and Bulgaria, defending champions Poland and European qualifiers France, The Netherlands, Slovenia, Russia, Serbia and Finland in the 2018 World Championship.
Next up is the last round of European qualifiers, with Germany, Slovakia, Belgium, Estonia, Belarus and Spain all vying for one ticket from a single round-robin pool in Kortrijk, starting on Wednesday.
