Beach volleyball stars try snow volleyball in Moscow

Moscow, Russia, June 1, 2017 – Last week the President of the FIVB, Dr. Ary S. Graça F°, officially announced that the FIVB aspires to be the first international federation to participate in both the summer and winter Olympic Games. He gave his support to snow volleyball, a new member of the volleyball family.

Now the snow volleyball phenomenon is gripping the world with the stars from the Moscow Open also trying their hand including Brazil's Olympic champions Alison and Bruno, and Alvaro Filho.

Countries like Russia and Latvia already have professional snow volleyball tours set up. So at the start of the FIVB Beach World Tour stop in Moscow this week some of the top beach players from outside Europe were introduced to snow volleyball.

In an indoor ski hall in the outskirts of Moscow, Alvaro saw snow for the first time in his life. “I never experienced anything like this. I feel the cold everywhere, in my nose, my feet and there’s smoke when I breathe. This is awesome.”

Besides the Brazilians Louise Bawden and Taliqua Clancy from Australia and USA's Jake Gibb and Taylor Crabb also had a go at snow volleyball. "It will be interesting to see what it's like trying to move", Bawden said. "But diving? Definitely not!"
