Brazil, USA, Russia and Czech Republic unbeaten after Day 1 in Bariloche

Brazil finished among the unbeaten teams after Women's Day 1 of action in Bariloche

Bariloche, Argentina, August 2, 2019 - The Women’s event at the third and final 2019 Snow Volleyball World Tour stage in Bariloche began this Friday and although the first round will be over on Saturday morning, teams from Brazil, USA, Russia and Czech Republic have already set a winning course in Argentina.

Even though Pool A is not yet finished, this group of five teams already established the one who won’t be moving forward to the elimination phase after Chile 1's four Friday losses. For Chile 2, the win that sent them through was a bittersweet one - a hard-fought 2-1 (9-15, 21-19, 19-17) over fellow Chileans that precisely meant their elimination.

This pool will have a fantastic match on Saturday morning to decide the top ranked team, with the undefeated Russian trio of Olga Filina, Anna Romashova and Marina Grechko taking on the also unbeaten Anna Dostalova, Sarlota Svobodova and Magdalena Dostalova from the Czech Republic.

Pool B also has two remaining matches and things are still quite open there. Americans Katherine Spieler, Alexandra Wheeler, Karissa Cook and Emily Hartong lead the rankings at the moment, but they will have to defend their spotless record against Slovakia to stay where they are. Argentina 2 will be on the lookout for a final pass as they face the winless Japan.

The only zone fully decided is Pool C, the one dominated by Brazilian legend Juliana Felisberta Da Silva together with the also very experienced Josemari Alves and Tainá Silva Bigi. They moved past Turkey, Argentina 1 and Nigeria without dropping a set.

When the first round is completed, the draw to arrange the following matchups for the elimination phase will be held in Bariloche. At the end of an action-packed Saturday, only four teams will remain and they will resolve the medal owners.

Be sure to watch the event on the FIVB's YouTube and Facebook accounts. The tournament will also be available on the Olympic Channel, NBC and Canal 7 in Argentina.
