Brazilians look sharp on first day of men’s main draw in Nanjing
Brazil's abriel Zuliani and Gabriel de Abreu Lima Pisco claimed two victories on the first day of the FIVB Beach Volleyball U19 World Championships men's main draw
Gabriel/Pisco got their day started with a 2-0 (21-19, 21-19) win over Russia’s Denis Shekunov/Dmitrii Veretiuk and closed it with a 2-0 (21-16, 21-18) triumph against Paraguay’s Jorge Rivero/Gonzalo Melgarejo in Pool B.
Germany’s Rudy Schneider/Simon Pfrezschner stunned the host nation’s Liu Jinqiu/Tang Xingyu 2-0 (21-8, 21-14) and Algeria’s Tizit Farouk/Hamdache Ayoub 2-0 (21-19, 21-16) to dominate the action in Pool A.
England’s Javier Bello/Joaquin Bello won both their matches against USA’s Timothy Brewster/John Schwengel 2-1 (21-16, 19-21, 15-9) and Switzerland’s Nathan Broch/Timon Gysin 2-0 (21-16, 21-16) in Pool C, while Italy’s Alberto Di Silvestre/Tobia Marchetto kept their winning streak with victories over France’s Vivien Tournier/Paul Nicole 2-1 (21-16, 16-21, 15-12) and Australia’s James Takken/Mark Nicolaidis 2-0 (21-15, 23-21) in Pool D.

Polish duo Dominik Poznanski/Mikolaj Miszczuk reigned in Pool E with convincing straight-set wins against Mozambique’s Jorge Monjane/Arsenio Guvu 2-0 (21-17, 21-14) and South Africa’s Lukholo Jooste/Aviwe Bulela Mamfanya 2-0 (21-13, 21-11).
Laurenz Leitner/Theo Reiter dominated in Pool F with two victories. The Austrians endured a tough 2-0 (21-18, 24-22) encounter with Indonesia’s Bintang Akbar/Danang Herlambang before accelerating to an easy win against Morocco’s Farouk and Yazid Mokhantar 2-0 (21-6, 21-7). Thailand’s Pichakon Narathon/Phanupong Thanan came up with twin wins against the Mokhantar brothers 2-0 (21-8, 21-14) and Bintang/Danang 2-1 (16-21, 22-20, 17-15).
Russia’s Alexey Gusev/Pavel Shustrov and New Zealand’s Keegan Maan Tai Joe/Ryan Gunn also had two wins apiece in Pool G. The Russians defeated Vanuatu’s James and Nono Chilia 2-0 (21-10, 21-13) and Bolivia’s Carlos Andres Chacon Espinoza/Luis Gustavo Calvo Liendo 2-0 (21-9, 21-13), while the New Zealanders beat the Bolivian duo 2-0 (21-15, 21-15) and the Vanuatu pair 2-0 (21-17, 21-13).
Argentina’s Mauro Zelayeta/Bautista Amieva closed the day with a 2-0 (21-12, 21-13) win over Egypt’s Youssef Ashraf Mohamed Mahmoud/Ali Ahmed Mohamed Amin Farahat, following their morning victory over China’s Jiang Linghang/Yuan Xu 2-0 (21-12, 21-11) in Pool H.
