President Graça and CEV President Aleksandar Boričić agreed on the necessity to work even more closely together – thus capitalising on the fruitful cooperation these organisations have developed so far in order to grow the game at all levels. “We are one volleyball team”, the slogan chosen for this plenary meeting, epitomises the current relationship between the FIVB and CEV, as these organisations are working hand in hand to raise the profile of volleyball to the next level.

The CEV President emphasised that sport remains the core of any action implemented by the European Confederation – since the game is what the CEV stands primarily for, however next to that, he insisted it is necessary to develop a modern and sustainable business model, which applies especially to the top sporting events.

On top of this, as per the guidelines defined in the CEV Strategy 2020 approved by the Board of Administration, the CEV will work harder than ever to promote volleyball among the youngsters, especially via its “Volleyball at School” project, a major asset to attract pupils to the game and to start growing the stars of tomorrow.

In an effort to pursue the above-mentioned strategic goals, the Board of Administration discussed and reviewed a number of proposals prepared by the various CEV Commissions during their respective meetings earlier this year. Any future actions, projects and campaigns will aim at increasing participation in all CEV’s activities and competitions, while at the same time raising awareness and the value of the sport.

In this regard, the players will take centre stage, helping promoting the game as well as all CEV competitions, with a focus on their involvement in actions specifically designed for social and digital media. The CEV Board of Administration also wishes for the introduction of an open international calendar with any such move to be discussed with the FIVB and all relevant stakeholders.

On Sunday morning, the CEV Board of Administration had a meeting – the first ever of this kind – with the European members of FIVB Commissions as well as with the FIVB leadership, including President Graça, and former elite athletes such as Giba and Vladimir Grbic. The meeting helped review a number of projects of common interest and strengthen the cooperation between the respective organisations, thus making sure all members of the volleyball family are aligned and pursuing the same goals – like any volleyball team pursuing their best performance and chasing a victory any time their players take to the court!
