The Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in 2018 follow on from the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games in China in 2014. The second edition of the Youth Olympic Games featured beach volleyball for the first time after volleyball was part of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in 2010.
The Youth Olympic Games help to create a strong platform to develop youth volleyball and beach volleyball around the world, with national federations investing in young athletes in an effort to earn one of the berths at the Games. They come in addition to the biennial volleyball and beach volleyball Age Group World Championships organised by the FIVB.
