Egypt's Ahly win record 12th African Club title

 

Ahly of Egypt win their record 12th title in the African Club Championship in Tunis, Tunisia

Tunis, Tunisia, March 27, 2017 - Ahly of Egypt earned their 12th African Club Championship title, following their 3-1 (20-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-18) victory over Tunisia's Etoile du Sahel at Taraji Hall on Monday.

Prior to the 2017 title win, Ahly have won the African Club Championship in 1980, 1983, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2003, 2004, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2011 and 2015. Ahly have six more title wins than Sfax – the second team with the most number of titles in the championship, while Etoile have two titles won in 2001 and 2002.

Meanwhile, Bourj Bouaririj claimed the bronze medal after their sweep of Libya’s Swehly 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-20).

Hosts Esperance defeated Kenya Prisons 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-19) and finished fifth, while Libyan newcomers Assarya trounced Cameroon’s FAP 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-14) and finished seventh overall.
 
CAVB president Dr. Amr Elwani graced the closing ceremony and awarded the medals to the podium finishers.
