European titles go to Kazan and Bursa
Dinamo Kazan celebrate their success in the final of the 2017 CEV Cup.
With their backs against the wall after winning the first leg 3-1 at home over Unet Yamamay Busto Arsizio but trailing by two on Saturday in Italy, Dinamo Kazan turned the game around for a full comeback to tie the score at 2-2 - enough to earn them the 2017 CEV Cup title. With both sides brining on a few of their subs for the procedural tie-break, Dinamo Kazan eventually also won the match 3-2 (23-25, 16-25, 25-12, 25-21, 15-12) denying Busto Arsizio their third title in the history of the competition after 2010 and 2012.
It was Kazan's second European title after their Champions League success in 2014 and keeps the CEV Cup in Russia, continuing from back-to-back titles by Dinamo Krasnodar the previous two seasons.
Iirna Voronkova led Dinamo Kazan through the first four sets scoring 19 points and though she was subsituted for the tie-break she remained best scorer of the Russian team. Valentina Diouf, who also sat out the fifth set was top scorer of the game with 22 points.
And Bursa overturned their five-set defeat to Greece's Olympiacos earlier this week in Piraeus with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-23) sweep at home that earned them the 2017 Challenge Cup title.
Once again Brazil's Joycinha da Silva led the scoring for Bursa with 21 points and Hungary's Dora Horvath added 13, as the home side completely outblocked (11 stuffs to 2) and outserved (6 aces to 1) Olympiacos.
It was Bursa's second Challenge Cup title, after their 2015 success over Russia's Uralochka NTMK Ekaterinburg.
