Konovalova passes away

 

The volleyball family mourns the passing of USSR and Dinamo Moscow legend Lilia Konovalova

Lausanne, Switzerland, November 30, 2015 - USSR and Dinamo Moscow legend Lilia Konovalova (nee Kalenik) has passed away at the age of 83, the Russian Volleyball Federation announced today.

Born on February 20, 1933 in Novosibirisk, Konovalova was a two-time world champion in 1956 and 1960. She also won silver medals at the 1955 European Championship and the 1962 World Championship. With her club Dinamo Moscow she claimed six domestic titles.

After her playing days, Konovalova pursued a teaching career and taught Spanish at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations.
