Moiseeva and Syrtseva lead way to Daegu semis

Daegu, Korea, July 13, 2019 – Russia’s Alexandra Moiseeva and Ekaterina Syrtseva remain on course for their first FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour gold medals when they reached the women-only 1-Star Daegu semifinals on Saturday. 

The Russian pair, who won silver at the Tuan Chau Island 1-Star event in Vietnam in May, beat Japan’s Sakurako Fujii and Minori Kumada 2-0 (21-17, 21-11).


Moiseeva and Syrtseva will take on Austrian pair Eva Freiberger and Valerie Teufl in the semifinals on Sunday. The number one seeds defeated Israel’s Sofia Starikov and Anita Dave 2-1 26-24, 21-15, 15-8). 

In the other semifinal Dhita Juliana and Putu Utami will take on Kaho Sakaguchi and Reika Murakami. 

The Indonesians beat Thailand’s Chanthira Khanok and Yodsaphat Pakham (2-0 (23-21, 22-20), while Japan’s Sakaguchi and Murakami enjoyed a 2-0 (21-17, 21-12) victory over Romania’s Beata Vaida and Ioana-Alexandra Ordean.

It is the third consecutive season in a row that Daegu has hosted a World Tour tournament. The tournament runs from July 11-14 with US$5,000 on offer to the winners. In 2017 Japan’s Miki Ishii and Megumi Murakami topped the women's podium before Australia’s Phoebe Bell and Jessyka Ngauamo won gold in 2018.
