Slovenia will be making their debut in the World League

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 2, 2016 – The Slovenia men’s volleyball team has gathered in Kranjska Gora to start preparations for their first ever appearance in the FIVB World League.

The Slovenians, who won the silver medal at the 2015 CEV European Championship and had an astonishing winning streak of 12 matches in the 2015 CEV European League, have set only one goal for this season: To win Group 3 of the 2016 FIVB World League.

Italian coach Andrea Giani will be preparing his team in Kranjska Gora for two weeks before heading for Montes Claros to join Bernardo Rezende's Brazil for some joint preparation with the hosts of the 2016 Olympic Games.

“We had an exceptional season last year,” Alen Sket said after his arrival in Kraniska Gora. “We are a great team, we get along really well and it is great to be back. I think everyone is excited and eager to start working. There are two intense months in front of us, but we are determined to make another step forward this year.”

Giani revealed his list of 23 players at the beginning of April, but decided to start the first week with 14. At present, he is without Tine Urnaut and Mitja Gasparini, who are still playing for their clubs in Qatar and France, and Klemen Cebulj who has had some extra days off. Dejan Vincic, who just came back from Lebanon, will join the team on Monday, as well as ACH Volley and Calcit Volleyball players Mario Koncilja, Ziga Donik, Jan Brulec, Toncek Stern, Ziga Stern, Saso Stalekar and Klemen Hribar, who are still playing in the Slovenian Championship finals.

The players in Kranjska Gora are: Gregor Ropret, Ales Kok, Matic Vrtovec, Alen Pajenk, Danijel Koncilja, Miha Bregar, Alen Sket, Jan Klobucar, Matej Kok, Jani Kovacic and Urban Toman.
