World Tour heads to Visakhapatnam for first time
Martina Bonnerova (above) and Martina Maixnerova will be the top seeds in the women's competition when the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour stops in Visakhpatnam, India for the first time
A port city and industrial centre, Visakhpatnam will open its doors to a double-gender tournament to be held at RamaKrishna Beach. It will be the third FIVB beach volleyball event to be hosted by India after hosting Challenger/Satellite events in 2008 and 2010.

The four-day event will feature 30 men’s teams from 20 countries, including Austria, Canada, Chinese Taipei, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Iran, Japan, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Qatar, Russia, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, United States and hosts India.
In the women’s tournament, 21 teams from 12 countries will compete, including Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, India, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, United States and Vanuatu.
Iran’s Arash Vakili and Bahman Salamiinjehboroun and Singapore’s Kingsley Tay and Fan Yang Mark Shen are seeded first and second in the men’s tournament, while the Czech Republic’s Martina Bonnerova and Martina Maixnerova and Japan’s Chiyo Suzuki and Yurika Sakaguchi are the top and second seeds in the women’s tournament.
Bonnerova partnered with Sarka Nakladalova to bag the World Tour Agadir 2-star event silver medal last year.
