Ali Ghanim Al Kuwari will lead the Qatar Volleyball Association

Doha, Qatar, December 14, 2016 - Ali Ghanim Al Kuwari was elected unopposed as the new president of the Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) on Tuesday. He succeeded Khalid Ali Al Mawlawi, who did not seek re-election after completing his four-year term.

Al Kuwari, a former Qatar international and member of the previous QVA Board, is a respected figure in volleyball circles.

He proved his organisational ability by playing a key role during the FIVB Volleyball Club World Championships which the QVA hosted from 2009 to 2012. "I thank the whole Qatar volleyball family for believing in my vision. It’s an honour for me to lead the QVA and take our sport to greater heights in future," he said. "Development at the grassroots level will be given top priority."

Meanwhile, Mohammed Ali Al Mohannadi retained the post of general secretary. In a close contest, he won 11 votes against 10 for Khaled Al Kaabi.

Yousef Kano, Mubarak Eid and Saeed Salem were elected as Board members. One of the three will be named treasurer at the next meeting of the QVA.
