Tijuana, Mexico, December 15, 2016 – NORCECA Regional Development Centre operations Director Alberto Arreola presented plans for the volleyball festival, which will be held in the occasion of the Mini Volleyball Seminar in Baja California High Performance Centre.
Arreola conducted the meeting with coaches and technical staff, on behalf of the regional development centre’s general director Saul Castro Verdugo. Arreola highlighted the great impact that volleyball festivals have brought in other continents.
“We want to get the best of this experience, it is our first time in a festival like this as we prepare to host a good event,” Arreola said. “The festivals have been successful in several countries in South America, Europe, Africa and Asia for example.”
Arreola also underlined that volleyball is a sport with great social responsibility worldwide.
“We have seen the reports and there have been very important initiatives promoted by the FIVB, such as a volleyball scholar development programme in Somalia, for example,” Arreola remarked.
“The United Nations promoted a women´s tournament in Afghanistan as we have seen in the FIVB website during our preparation meetings. Volleyball has a great projection as a sport. We, as a development centre, want to be part of this.”
A press conference will be held on Friday, December 16, at 13:00 local time, with a general rehearsal and inspection scheduled in the evening. A streaming service will be available to follow-up the activities at the conclusion of the first tests on Wednesday.
Cuban instructor Argelio Hernandez will arrive in Tijuana to attend the final stage of the Mini Volleyball Regional Seminar and the volleyball festival. Juan Cartagena of Puerto Rico will direct the clinics.
