12 countries earn men's Round of 16 slots at SWATCH FIVB Youth World Championships

PORTO, Portugal, July 30, 2010—Escaping from elimination Friday after playing the final two of three pool play matches, 16 of the world’s best young men’s beach volleyball teams have moved forward to the start of Saturday’s elimination rounds, on the sun-baked Porto sand at the 2010 SWATCH FIVB Youth World Championships, the ninth annual event for players under 19. The round of 16 and the quarterfinals will be held Saturday in the double-gender event at the venue, located adjacent to the Edificio Transparente at the Esplanda do Rio de Janeiro.    More

PORTO, Portugal, July 30, 2010—Competing Friday with slightly cooler temperatures from the sweltering heat of the two previous days and with light fog, the world’s best young women’s Beach Volleyball tandems endured the survival test that yielded a sturdy field of 16 teams from 14 countries for Saturday’s elimination rounds at the 2010 SWATCH FIVB Youth World Championships, the ninth annual event for players under 19.    More

 

Czechs, Latvians & Swiss Post Men’s Friday’s Surprises at A1 Beach Volleyball Grand Slam


Aleksandrs Samoilovs (receiving the Mikasa) and Ruslans Sorokins of Latvia won their pool Friday at the A1 Beach Volleyball Grand Slam to advance to Saturday's elimination rounds.

Klagenfurt, Austria, July 30, 2010 - Five of the top eight-seeded teams capture pools as expected here Friday at the US$600,000 A1 Beach Volleyball Grand Slam presented by Volksbank, but it was the play of teams from the Czech Republic, Latvia and Switzerland that were unbeaten in their groups to earn “byes” for the elimination rounds of the SWATCH FIVB World Tour.   More

World Championships, SWATCH Grand Slams Highlight 2009 Season



The world championships in Norway followed by SWATCH FIVB World Tour Grand Slam events in Switzerland, Russia, France and Austria highlighted the 2009 international Beach Volleyball campaign as US$7.2-million in prize money was distributed at 18 events in 15 countries.
