Marrakesh, Morocco, May 5, 2017 - Participants at the Volleyball Your Way festival in Marrakesh on Friday were not expecting Brazilian volleyball legend and Olympic gold medalist Giba to take to the courts alongside them.

In Marrakesh for the FIVB Board of Administration meeting, which concluded on Friday afternoon, Giba joined over 500 children from the city's public and private schools at a Volleyball Your Way festival held at a local sports centre. The event was intended to promote and expand the practice of volleyball among Moroccan youth, an issue that the FIVB Athletes’ Commission president is highly involved with in Brazil. Earlier in the week, Giba attend a friendly match between hosts Morocco and Qatar, who will be taking part in this year's edition of the World League.

Volleyball is practiced widely in the school system in Morocco and festivals of this kind are regular events in the country.

The sitting volleyball demonstration proved popular with people attending the festival

The festival was also a chance for the youngsters to get up close and personal with their home grown sporting heroes. Also creating a buzz with the youngsters was Saïd Aouita a former Moroccan track and field athlete who won gold at the 5000 meters at the 1984 Olympic Games.
