2026 Italian Snow Volleyball Championships held in spectacular Kronplatz

This year’s edition of the Italian Snow Volleyball Championship Tour had only one stop, the Finals in the iconic high-altitude venue of Kronplatz (pictured in the main photo; source: federvolley.it), held over the weekend. The team featuring Slovakia’s experienced snow volleyball star Silvia Poszmikova, along with Anna Dalmazzo, Giulia Toti and Sofia Arcaini triumphed as women’s champions on Sunday. The men’s title went to the squad comprised of Jakob Windish, Markus Groeber and Theo Hanni. 32 matches involving a total of 16 teams were played at over two thousand meters above sea level in the spectacular setting of the Dolomites to determine the champions.

The eight participating teams per gender were split into two modified-play pools of four, with the top three in each pool advancing to the knockouts – quarterfinals, semifinals and medal matches.

Dalmazzo, Toti, Poszmikova & Arcaini cruised through the women’s tournament without dropping a single set in four matches played. In the semifinals, they took a 2-0 (15-8, 17-15) victory over the team of Juliane Stolzlechner, Lena Obletter & Romy Brugger, and in the championship showdown, they mastered a 2-0 (15-13, 15-10) sweep against Anja Burgmann, Julia Mairhofer, Lea Burgmann & Sarah Riva.

The latter also reached the final without losing a single set. They crowned their run with a 2-0 (15-8, 15-11) semifinal shutout of Eva Seeber, Ines Lufter & Maria Altstatter. The bronze medal battle was pushed to three sets, with Seeber, Lufter & Altstatter celebrating a 2-1 (11-15, 16-14, 15-8) victory over Stolzlechner, Obletter & Brugger and a spot on the podium.

Sofia Arcaini of the champions’ team was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.

Women’s results

Windish, Groeber and Hanni went through their pool with two straight-set wins. In the semifinals, they were pushed to a tie-breaker by Diego Leon Steger, Felix Gruber & Michael Stolzlechner before earning a 2-1 (15-8, 8-15, 15-11) victory. The gold medal match also took three sets to resolve and did not end before the overtime of the tie-breaker. Finally, Windish, Groeber and Hanni squeezed out a 2-1 (17-15, 9-15, 16-14) win over Michael Burgmann, Peter Seeber & Thomas Berger.

Burgmann, Seeber & Berger did not lose any sets on the way to the final. In their semifinal, they delivered a 2-0 (15-9, 15-12) victory over Alex Arnofoli, Enrico Lupatelli, Michele Bennato & Stefano De Leo, who then bounced back to snatch the bronze with a hard-fought 2-0 (15-11, 18-16) sweep of the third-place playoff against Steger, Gruber & Stolzlechner.

The MVP honors in the men’s tournament were bestowed upon Theo Hanni.
