Nicolas Capogrosso began his beach volleyball career around 2014, pairing with Julian Azaad. They competed in the Vienna 2017 and Hamburg 2019 editions of the World Championships. They qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games but fell out of contention during the group phase of the competition.

The younger Capogrosso, Tomas, started from Argentina’s age-group volleyball programme, peaking as part of the bronze medal team at the FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship in Tunisia in 2019.
Towards 2022, Tomas joined his brother to form a dedicated, full-time partnership for Argentina’s beach volleyball programme. Beyond their brotherly bond, they had a powerful formula: Nicolas’s veteran wisdom and experience combined with Tomas’s youthful energy and determination.

The Capogrosso brothers strengthened their partnership through consistent appearances on the South American circuit, building upon an impressive regional foundation. They collected medals and honours in continental championships as well as multi-sport platforms such as the ODESUR South American Games.
At the start of their partnership, Nicolas planned to work their way gradually into the Beach Pro Tour, beginning with the Challenge tier to build momentum before progressing to the Elite levels. They have achieved runners-up finishes, their best results to date, at the BPT Elite16 Rio de Janeiro in November 2024 and the BPT Elite16 Quintana Roo in March 2025.
The Argentine duo have also competed in the World Championships, earning a Lucky Loser play-off berth in Rome 2022 and a Round of 32 finish in Tlaxcala 2023.

The Capogrossos enter the 2025 edition in Adelaide ranked 11th in the world. They are grouped with Mondlane/Mungoi (MOZ), Schacter/Pickett (CAN) and Paris 2024 silver medallists Ehlers/Wickler (GER) in the group phase.
Their achievements reflect the success of a well-balanced partnership supported by the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment Programme. Under the current period, the FIVB has provided funding worth USD 42,000 to assist with coach support and other logistical requirements essential to the Capogrossos’ global campaign.
Coach Giugliano Mezzagno has led this campaign, fully recognising the timeline and process required to mould a dynamic, high-potential duo into a consistent medal-winning team. His philosophy remains firmly focused on long-term growth.

“We’re starting a journey towards LA28 with high expectations, obviously year by year, because this is a long process, month by month, tournament by match, and working hard day by day. I always tell the guys to look back only to see the good things. Let’s leave the past behind and use each day to learn something new and continue improving ourselves,” he said in early 2025.
The Capogrossos’ participation in the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment Programme confirms that Mezzagno has worked effectively with the Argentine federation and the FIVB to elevate a regionally competitive team to the world stage. The brothers are ranked seventh globally as of this writing.
The best is yet to come for Tomas and Nicolas Capogrosso. They have always kept their expectations modest, but the numbers speak for themselves. They enter Adelaide not merely as participants but as genuine contenders capable of winning the title on their best day. Argentina will also be represented by Juan Bautista Amieva & Maciel Bueno, who join the Capogrosso brothers in flying the flag for their country at the Beach Volleyball World Championships.
