Both gold medals and one of the silvers at last week’s Arab Beach Volleyball Chiampionships in Oman were picked up by pairs, whose national federations benefit from FIVB Volleyball Empowerment support. In the women’s tournament, Morocco’s Mahassine Siad & Imane Yakki topped the podium, while Lebanon’s Mirna Cheikho & Lara Al Nahi finished runners-up. The home team of Hood Al Jalaboubi & Ahmed Alhousni earned the men’s gold for Oman. The other podium spots went to Algeria’s Chahla Benmokhtar & Hassaine Ikram, placed third in the women’s competition, and Tunisia’s Adem Elmeddeb & Mohamed Aziz Lenglize and Algeria’s Kallouche Mohamed-Islem & Souadi Mohamed, placed second and third on the men’s side.
The Federation Royale Marocaine de Volley-Ball has been allocated USD 42,000 in coach support for their national beach volleyball teams, working under the management and the supervision of Italian expert Ezio Goia. Morocco’s beach volleyball has also been funded with USD 18,000 in knowledge transfer programs and with USD 11,500 in beach volleyball equipment. The Lebanese Volleyball Federation has been granted USD 84,000 in FIVB Volleyball Empowerment coach support for their beach volleyball duos in both genders, who have been working under the guidance of coach Nader el Fidawi, in addition to USD 17,500 in beach volleyball equipment.
Morocco’s Mahassine & Yakki cruised through the women’s Arab Championship in Oman without dropping a single set in the six matches played. In the semifinals, they mastered a 2-0 (21-6, 21-12) sweep of their match (pictured in the main photo; source: @omanvba) against Saudi Arabia’s Basmah Shidar & Lujain Alhuwaykim, and in the final, they produced a 2-0 (21-15, 21-11) victory over Lebanon’s Mirna & Lara.

The Lebanese pair lost only four sets in six games played, all of them in the two matches against Mahassine & Yakki. To secure their spot in the final, Mirna & Lara celebrated a 2-0 (21-16, 21-15) semifinal win over Algeria’s Chahla & Ikram.
Chahla & Ikram bounced back with a 2-0 (21-8, 21-2) shutout of Basmah & Lujain to snatch the bronze.
Oman Volleyball Association’s beach volleyball department has been granted USD 84,000 in FIVB Volleyball Empowerment coach support for their men’s national pairs, who are working under the supervision of Iranian coach Amirhossein Esmaeilzadeh.
Oman’s Hood & Ahmed won all four of their games at the men’s Arab Championship their country hosted. Their winning run went through a 2-0 (21-8, 21-8) sweep of their all-Omani semifinal against Nouh Al-Jalbubi & Yousef Al Abri and peaked with a thrilling 2-1 (21-18, 35-37, 18-16) victory in the gold medal showdown against Tunisia’s Elmeddeb & Lenglize.
It was the first loss for the Tunisian duo in the tournament. All four of their games were resolved in tie-breakers. Elmeddeb & Lenglize’s run to the final was crowned with a 2-1 (21-19, 13-21, 15-9) semifinal win over Algeria’s Kallouche & Souadi.
The Algerian pair secured the bronze with a 2-0 (21-19, 21-15) victory over Nouh & Yousef in the third place match.

Eight women’s and 10 men’s pairs from Algeria, Bahrain, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia and Yemen competed at the Arab Beach Volleyball Championships in Oman.
