When the world’s best beach volleyball players gather in Adelaide, Australia for the World Championship from 14 to 23 November 2025, Switzerland will once again be part of the action—this time with a powerful mix of experience, youth, and ambition.
The 2025 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships will be played in the heart of Adelaide, across The Drive and Pinky Flat/Tarntanya Wama, with 48 men’s and 48 women’s teams competing for the sport’s highest honour outside the Olympic Games.
Swiss Volley’s beach volleyball department has so far been allocated 336,000 USD in Coach Support from FIVB Volleyball Empowerment Programme. Thanks to that funding, their women’s national teams are working under the instruction of Polish coach Damian Wojtasik and their men’s duos are benefitting from the expertise of Swiss coach Philip Gabathuler.
Switzerland will be represented by three men’s pairs, all of whom have formed new partnerships this season but already delivered promising results on the Beach Pro Tour.
Formed in 2025, the pair of Marco Krattiger & Leo Dillier are seeded 24th and will make their World Championship debuts in Adelaide. Their first season together in the Beach Pro Tour has been impressive, highlighted by gold medal in the Stare Jabłonki Challenge, silver in the Xiamen Challenge, silver in the Spiez Futures and bronze in the Valencia Futures.

After reaching the Round of 24 at this year’s European Championships, they now look to build on that momentum. Drawn into Pool A, they will face compatriots Adrian Heidrich & Jonathan Jordan on 14 November, Uruguay’s Hans Hannibal & Nicolás Llambías Carvalho on 15 November and Norway’s top seeds Anders Berntsen Mol & Christian Sandlie Sørum on 16 November.
Experience meets fresh energy in the team of Adrian Heidrich & Jonathan Jordan who are the tournament’s 25th seeds. Heidrich, 31, returns for his second World Championship appearance after competing in 2019 and at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. Partnering with 25-year-old Jonathan Jordan in the Beach Pro Tour this season, the pair has already tasted success with gold in Spiez Futures and bronze in Geneva Futures.
They will also compete in Pool A, opening against their fellow Swiss Krattiger & Dillier on 14 November before facing Norway’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic champions Anders Berntsen Mol & Christian Sandlie Sørum on 15 November and Uruguay’s Hans Hannibal & Nicolás Llambías Carvalho on 16 November.

The youngest of the Swiss men’s teams, 34th seeds Yves Haussener & Julian Friedli, have quickly proven to be a duo to watch. They have impressed in the 2025 Beach Pro Tour, winning gold in the Geneva Futures and silver in the Yucatán Challenge.
Both Haussener, 27, and Friedli, 19, will be making their World Championship debuts in Adelaide. They are drawn in Pool J and will start their campaign against Austria’s 15th seeds Timo Hammarberg & Tim Berger on 15 November, then Qatar’s 10th seeds Cherif Younousse & Ahmed Tijan on 16 November and wind up with Cuba’s 39th seeds Damian Gomez Limonta & Eblis Veranes Kens on 17 November.
The Vergé-Dépré sisters, Anouk & Zoé, celebrate their bronze medal at the 2025 Beach Pro Tour Elite16 event in Gstaad.
The women’s team will feature two duos who embody both tradition and the future of Swiss beach volleyball. For the first time, the Vergé-Dépré sisters, Anouk & Zoé, will team up at the World Championship. Anouk, 33, brings deep experience with six previous World Championships and two Olympic Games appearances—winning bronze in Rio 2016.
Zoé, 27, is a one-time Olympian, who reached the quarterfinals at Paris 2024 and has played at two World Championships. Their 2025 season has been excellent especially in the Beach Pro Tour. Anouk & Zoé won bronze medals at the Elite16 events in Ostrava and Gstaad, gold in Alanya Challenge and silver in Spiez Futures. They also reached the quarterfinals at the 2025 European Championships.
In Pool K, they will meet Dominican Republic’s Crismil Paniagua Hinojosa & Julibeth Payano Veras on 14 November, Australia’s Elizabeth Alchin & Georgia Johnson on 15 November and Austria’s 14th seeds, the Klinger sisters, Dorina & Ronja on 17 November.
Following an ankle injury to Tanja Hüberli, Annique Niederhauser has joined Leona Kernen to rekindle their partnership from the 2023 Under 21 World Championship, where they won silver.
Seeded 13th, their return comes with excellent form with Annique having won silver at the Beach Pro Tour Messina Futures with Menia Bentele. Leona, on the other hand, enjoyed a great partnership with Hüberli before her injury; winning gold in Spiez Futures, silver in Yucatán Challenge, and finishing fourth at the Elite16 stop in Gstaad.
Tanja Hüberli has been ruled out of the World Championship due to an ankle injury.
In Pool L, they will face Germany’s Melanie Paul & Lea Sophie Kunst on 14 November, Australia’s 12th seeds Taliqua Clancy & Jana Milutinovic on 15 November and China’s Jingzhe Wang/Xinyi Xia on 16 November.
For Switzerland, the goal is clear: deep runs in the knockout stages and challenge the world’s elite. With Volleyball Empowerment support, new talented faces and momentum from the Beach Pro Tour podiums, the Swiss teams will be a formidable force in Adelaide.
