“Dangers of Doping” Seminar held at FIVB-NORCECA Regional Development Center

The members of the Dominican women's team attended the workshop

Dr Victor Figueroa, President of the NORCECA Medical Commission, conducted a workshop about the dangers of doping and the use of prohibited substances for members of the Dominican women’s team at the FIVB-NORCECA Regional Development Center in Santo Domingo.

As the world of sport continues to evolve and push the boundaries of human achievement, educational programmes on athletes welfare and clean sport play an important role in preparing for high-level competitions and protecting the integrity of sport.

The dangers of doping were addressed to reaffirm NORCECA’s commitment to clean and ethical sportsmanship in accordance with the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) and the FIVB.

Participants learned about banned substances, methods to enhance athletic performance and dietary or nutritional supplements, all of which pose significant physical and mental health risks to athletes.

Dr Figueroa emphasised the need for education and support initiatives to empower athletes with the knowledge and resources to make informed decisions and protect clean sport.
