Argentina and Turkey join undefeated Brazil at Women's semifinals in Bariloche

A pumped up Josemari Alves shouts to celebrate Brazil's quarterfinal win over Slovakia

Bariloche, Argentina, August 3, 2019 - The Women's competition of the third and last 2019 Snow Volleyball World Tour event in Bariloche has been reduced to four teams and they are Brazil, Turkey, Argentina 1 and Argentina 2, all ready to battle for the medals in the final day of action.

There's only one team in the entire women's competition that is yet to lose a game and that's Brazil. Juliana Felisberta Da Silva, Josemari Alves and Tainá Silva Bigi played a single match on Saturday but it was an extremely tight one - a double 18-16 against Slovakia's Iveta Miranda, Jana Rusnakova and Silvia Poszmikova.

Next they will meet Turkey's Ayse Dil, Simge Yalcin, Merve Celebi and Bahanur Gokalp, in a rematch of the pool play match won by Brazil in two sets. The Turks entered the semifinals through the long road, as they first bounced back to defeat Lithuania 2-1 and then pulled out a fantastic 2-0 (15-9, 16-14) over Russia.

The other semifinal match will be an all-Argentina duel, meaning the host nation will be for sure playing for an unprecedented gold medal. The first team to advance was Argentina 2, formed by Estefania Milesi, Laura Moreno, Brenda Churin and Victoria Pozzo Galdon, after a Round 1 win over Nigeria followed by the 2-1 (8-15, 15-8, 15-10) upset of Czech Republic's Anna Dostalova, Magdalena Dostalova and Sarlota Svobodova.

A few minutes later, back-to-back bronze medalists Virginia Zonta, Julieta Puntin, Eugenia Tuliz and Cecilia Peralta managed to stay on track for another medal as they nailed the last semifinal berth. Early in the morning they subdued Japan in two sets, followed by a sensational 2-1 (15-9, 8-15, 15-13) over the USA's Alexandra Wheeler, Katherine Spieler, Karissa Cook and Emily Hartong, denying them the chance to repeat the two silver medals gathered in the European stages.
