Coolangatta hosts the national finals ahead of this week’s Futures; Prague welcomes Czechia’s indoor national championships

• Milutinovic & Fejes and Tiso & Zieba top final Australian Tour podiums

• Lorenzova & Cerna and Semerad & Stocek triumph as Czech indoor beach volleyball champions

On two opposite ends of the globe, beach volleyball national champions were crowned on Sunday. While Australia held its 2023-2024 Australian Beach Volleyball Tour finals in Coolangatta, Czechia organized its 2024 Indoor Beach Volleyball National Championships in Prague.

A week before welcoming a Beach Pro Tour Futures event from 20 to 24 March, Coolangatta hosted the fourth and final stop of the 2023-2024 Australian Beach Volleyball Tour. Jana Milutinovic & Stefanie Fejes took the women’s crown, while Declan Tiso & Mateusz Zieba (pictured in the main photo; credits: Rogue Gun Photography) were the surprise winners of the men’s championship.

Top-seeded Milutinovic & Fejes once again cruised through their five games of the tournament without losing a set and picked up their third gold in this year’s four Tour stops. In the final, they went against seventh-seeded Caitlin Bettenay & Phoebe Bell to claim a narrow 2-0 (22-20, 21-19) victory. 15th-seeded Maya Gessner & Delaney Peranich of the United States, who started the tournament from the qualifiers and made it all the way to the third-place match, came back from a set down against second-seeded Georgia Johnson & Tara Phillips to celebrate a 2-1 (16-21, 21-17, 15-10) win and the bronze.

The fifth-seeded mixed Australian-Polish duo of Tiso & Zieba, who joined forces for the championships in Coolangatta, reached the final via the long route. After losing their pool final, they achieved a straight-set run through the eighthfinals, the quarterfinals and the semifinals. In the gold medal showdown, Tiso & Zieba produced a hard-fought 2-1 (21-19, 15-21, 16-14) victory over second-seeded New Zealanders John McManaway & Thomas Reid. Fourth-seeded Justin Schumann & Garang Anyang took the bronze after a 2-0 (21-18, 21-15) sweep of the third-place match against third-seeded Ben Hood & D'Artagnan Potts.
