Borger and Sude strike gold in Qinzhou
Germany's Karla Borger and Julia Sude win gold in Qinzhou
The German pair recorded a 2-1 (21-16, 21-19) win against the American pair to claim the top podium spot, as they employed a powerful service game that disrupted their opponent’s plays.
Earlier, they triumphed in the semifinal in straight sets (21-14, 23-21) against up-and-coming Chinese tandem Wen Shuhui and Wang Jingzhe.
“We beat China in the semifinal in a very tight second set and now Brooke and Kerri in the final,” Sude said. “We were in a bit of a flow and we served really well, I think this was the key in the end. We put a lot of pressure on them so they couldn’t side-out well, even though they played some awesome side-out balls that we didn’t expect, but our serve was the key.
“One minute after and I still feel like I’m still on court, but I’m really happy right now,” Borger said. “For sure this will all sink in tomorrow. We’re heading home and we’ll just stay home for six days and then on Sunday we leave for Mexico.”

Meanwhile, China’s Wen and Wang have achieved another milestone in their career as they have secured the bronze medal at Qinzhou, following their 2-1 (23-21, 22-24, 15-12) win over second-seeded Australian duo Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho Del Solar, who also lost to Sweat and Walsh Jennings in the tie-break (17-21, 21-18, 15-12).
“We knew before the match that it would be tough battle because our opponent is far better than us, so we just tried our best,” Wen said. “We just enjoyed the match. We think our opponents were more pressured in this match because they should beat us.”
