The Dominicans prepare for their third Olympics

The team set to represent the Dominican Republic at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games has arrived in Japan for a training base in the city of Okayama.

Brazilian coach Marcos Kwiek's squad is led by their captain Prisilla Rivera who was selected to be the flag bearer for her country's delegation at the Opening Ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics.

The other members of the team are:

Bethania de la Cruz, Brayelin Martinez, Yonkaira Peña and Gaila Gonzalez as attackers, Niverka Marte and Camil Dominguez as setters, Annerys Vargas, Jineiry Martínez and Lisvel Eve as middle blockers and Brenda Castillo and Larysmer Martínez as liberos.

The Dominican Republic team just finished their participation in the FIVB Volleyball Nations League with a 9-6 win-loss record good for a sixth position and the No. 6 place in the World Rankings.

This will be the third participation for the Dominican team at the Olympics. They finished in fifth position at London 2012. Highlights of their campaign at Athens 2004 included a five-set victory over the United States.
