FIVB mourns passing of Croatian Volleyball Federation President Ante Baković

The FIVB’s thoughts are with Mr Baković’s family and the Croatian volleyball community

The FIVB is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Ante Baković, President of the Croatian Volleyball Federation (HOS) and a loyal friend to volleyball, following his battle with a serious illness.

Born in 1967, Mr Baković was a businessman, a decorated officer of the Homeland War, a sports administrator and a lover of volleyball. He started his sports administration career in 1993 as the president of professional volleyball club HAOK Mladost. He was elected President of the HOS in 2017, and re-elected in 2020.

In 2020, he was appointed a member of the National Council for Sports by the Government of the Republic of Croatia, in addition to being elected as a Council Member of the Croatian Olympic Committee.

During his mandate, Mr Baković oversaw the opening of the HOS’ new headquarters in Zagreb in 2021 after an earthquake damaged its previous home. In 2022, the Croatia women’s national volleyball team made history by winning the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Challenger Cup and qualifying for the Volleyball Nations League 2023.

The FIVB and global Volleyball Family extends its deepest condolences to the Croatian volleyball community and Mr Baković’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.
