Mr Zhivko Zhechev was a key volleyball figure in Bulgaria
The FIVB is deeply saddened by the loss of the former General Secretary of the Bulgaria Volleyball Federation (BVF), Mr Zhivko Zhechev, who was a loyal and true friend to volleyball.
Born on 2 September 1950 in Pavlikeni, Bulgaria, Mr Zhechev began his career in volleyball as a player. During his time with CSKA, he became the winner of the European Cup (now known as the CEV Champions League) in 1969, and he also won Bulgaria’s national championship with the army team.
From 1992 to 1994, he served as the Executive Director of the BVF, and from 1994 to 1998 he took on the role of General Secretary. Over the years, he had been a member of the FIVB Technical Commission, as well as a permanent technical delegate for World League matches.
Mr Zhechev also introduced the FIVB Volleyball Information System to Bulgaria in 1992, and he held the role of BVF Administrative Director until 2010.
The FIVB and the global Volleyball Family extends its deepest condolences to the Bulgarian volleyball community and Mr Zhivko Zhechev’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
