FIVB mourns passing of Marta Centeno

Thoughts of the Volleyball Family are with Marta Centeno’s family and friends at this difficult time

The FIVB was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Guatemala’s Marta Centeno, former FIVB Executive Vice-President and Development Commission President. 

Marta Centeno was a respected member of the Volleyball Family and served the development of volleyball for many years in various capacities within the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) and the FIVB. She also was  a Vice-President of Autonomous Sports Confederation of Guatemala and part of the Women and Sports Commission of the Guatemalan Olympic Committee.

In 2020, Marta was inducted into the Gallery of the Notables of Guatemalan Sports in recognition of “her contribution to the improvement, cultivation and promotion of sport, fair play and the values that contribute to good human coexistence in the context of sport.”

Centeno was a beloved figure among the Volleyball Family for her leadership, and her passion for the sport and its development around the world. As a former athlete and medal winner in volleyball and athletics at the Central American Games she maintained her passion and dedication to sport throughout her life and career. 

The FIVB joins NORCECA and the global Volleyball Family in extending its deepest condolences to Marta Centeno’s family and friends at this time of great sorrow.
