FIVB mourns passing of Nasr Shaaban, the Egyptian international referee

The thoughts of the global Volleyball Family are with Shaaban’s family and loved ones at this difficult time

The FIVB was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Egypt’s Nasr Shaaban, an international referee who participated in many top FIVB events, including the Volleyball Nations League, World Championships and the Olympic Games.

A former volleyball player, Nasr Shaaban became an international referee in 2000 and was nominated as an FIVB referee in 2010. During his career as a referee he participated in many prestigious volleyball events, including the Olympic Games London 2012 and Rio 2016. He was appointed as a Board member of the Egyptian Volleyball Federation in 2014 and was the head of its Refereeing Commission from 2017. He was also a member of the CAVB Refereeing Commission.

The global Volleyball Family will remember Mr Shaaban as a well-respected referee and a great team player. The thoughts and sympathies of the FIVB are with Shaaban’s family and friends at this difficult time.
