FIVB President promotes good governance at NORCECA virtual seminar
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, June 24, 2020 – The FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° addressed the 41 National Federations and territories of the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) during a virtual sports administration seminar to promote the importance of transparency and good governance within their organisations.
Organised by the FIVB/NORCECA Regional Development Volleyball Center in the Dominican Republic, the seminar marked the first in a series of sessions aimed at sharing best practice in the areas of good governance, administration and future activities.
The FIVB President opened the inaugural seminar by highlighting the importance of working with national sports authorities to help promote volleyball and beach volleyball in their respective countries. He also urged participants to consider the value of digital platforms to reach wider audiences. For example, the FIVB’s innovative digital strategy has been critical in enabling the organisation to continue to showcase its sport and engage with fans worldwide during these unprecedented times.
Several other prominent members of the global Volleyball Family also attended the virtual seminar, such as the NORCECA President and FIVB first Executive Vice President Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, and the NORCECA Vice President and FIVB Board of Administration member Mushtaque Mohammed.
In addition, IOC Member, President of the Dominican Olympic Committee and President of the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization (CACSO), Luis Mejia Oviedo, was also present. During the seminar, he expressed that he was honoured to participate in the seminar, and congratulated the organisers for creating an initiative that will be extremely useful for the National Federations.
The series of seminars continues today with the FIVB Legal Commission President Jaime Lamboy to hold a lecture regarding the governance and structure of a National Federation.
