FIVB Volleyball Empowerment supports staging of the AVC Cup for Women in the Philippines

The Gerflor volleyball court floor provided by the FIVB was used for the first time at the event

The FIVB’s support of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) through the revolutionary programme of Volleyball Empowerment also includes equipment support with a three-colour Gerflor floor (Gerflor Performance 9mm - 693 mm) recently being used for the first time at the ongoing Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Cup for Women in Pasig City, Philippines.

This equipment support is in addition to ongoing coach support approved by FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F°. As part of the project, the FIVB appointed Head Coach Brazilian Jorge Edson Souza de Brito, a volleyball Olympic gold medallist at the Olympic Games Barcelona 1992, to help players maximise their potential. Meanwhile, the Gerflor floor will contribute to this programme allowing the players to train in a similar environment to match days.

The Philippines, a passionate volleyball nation, recently hosted two successful pools of the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) 2022 during week two of the men’s and women’s events on 21-26 June and from 14 to 19 June, respectively. The event showcased the incredible passion and loyalty of the local fans who packed the stadium to cheer for some of the best teams in the world.

FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° said:

“We are delighted to further support the development of volleyball in the Philippines, this time by providing the National Federation with best-in-class Gerflor flooring. Having the proper equipment is very important not only for hosting Continental and international events, but also to ensure the best conditions for the athletes to play and train in.

“We appreciate the committment of our partner Gerflor to the development of sport worldwide by providing the best equipment to our National Federations all over the world as the equipment is provided using the Value in Kind (VIK) indicated in the contracts.”

PNVF President Ramon Suzara said:

“We are very grateful to the FIVB and its President Dr Ary S. Graça F° for extending their support of volleyball in the Philippines. The provision of this three-colour Gerflor floor is a game-changer and we have already used it for the first time ever for the ongoing AVC Cup for women. We will make sure to utilise the equipment for future events hosted in the Philippines.

“Our main goals are to bring more and more international events to the country while developing strong national teams. With the coaching and equipment support provided by the FIVB, I am sure that the Philippines will further boost its volleyball development over the next few years.”
