Italy against Serbia in U20 World Championship final

Russia and the Netherlands to play for the bronze

Italy and Serbia are the finalists of the FIVB Volleyball U20 Women’s World Championship and are set to play for the title in Sunday’s final in Rotterdam. Russia and hosts Netherlands will battle it out for the bronze. Saturday’s matches in Kortrijk and Rotterdam also determined the remaining match-ups for the final classification fixtures: USA against Poland for fifth place, Dominican Republic against Brazil for seventh, Turkey against Belarus for ninth, Egypt against Argentina for 11th and Thailand against Belgium for 13th. Rwanda and Puerto Rico will take the 15th and the 16th places, respectively, in the final standings.

Semifinals 1 - 4

Italy will lock horns with Serbia in Sunday’s gold medal match. Entering the most exciting phase of the competition, the atmosphere at the Topsportcentrum was heated up as the two semifinal matches took place in Rotterdam. The Italian team grabbed a straight-set victory over Russia, while Serbia outclassed the Netherlands in four sets to disappoint the home crowd.

Playoffs 5 - 8

USA and Poland will go against each other in Sunday’s fifth place match in Kortrijk. On Saturday, they both defeated their playoff opponents, the Dominican Republic and Brazil, respectively, in straight sets.

Playoffs 9 - 12

Turkey and Belarus are the teams to decide who will finish in the ninth place of the U20 World Championship on Sunday. On Saturday in Rotterdam, Turkey outlasted Egypt in four sets, before Belarus hammered out an emphatic shutout of Argentina.

Playoffs 13 - 16

Co-hosts Belgium achieved their first on-court victory in the tournament and will battle against Thailand for the 13th place in Kortrijk on Sunday. With the support of the home fans at the Lange Munte in Kortrijk, they mastered a clean-slate victory over Rwanda. The African side will finish the World Championship in the 15th place, above Puerto Rico, who had to withdraw before the start of the competition.
