Campo Grande, Brazil, September 26, 2016 – Ricardo Santos rolled back the years as he and Andre Stein won the first leg of the 2016-17 Brazil Beach Volleyball Tour with victory over Alvaro Filho and Saymon Barbosa on Sunday. Olympians Evandro Goncalves and Pedro Solberg beat Leo Gomes and Rhooney Ferramenta 2-0 (21-15, 21-15) to win the bronze medal.

The Athens 2004 Olympic champion and Andre won 2-0 (21-17, 21-17) to win the first tournament of nine in the 2016-17 Brazil Tour.

The season marks the 21st year that the 41-year-old Ricardo has played since his debut on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour back in September 1995 and it is his 54th win on the Brazil Tour. Andre, 22, by contrast has just completed his second season on the World Tour and the win is his first Brazil Tour gold medal.

"Andre was a monster all week,” Ricardo said. “He has helped me a lot and I am very happy playing in this partnership.

“Andre is a young player and is developing well. At my age the important thing is to pass on my experience to him and show him how to be a winner.”

“We did our best against a team that were playing their first competition together and who will be a strong team,” Andre said. “We overcame fatigue and pain and Ricardo is a star and I am learning a lot from him.”
