Serbia and the United States meet for bronze
European powerhouses Russia and Italy are the finalists of the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship and will compete for the gold medal in Durango, Mexico, on Wednesday. Serbia and defending champions the United States will meet earlier in the bronze medal match.
The match that will determine the fifth-placed team will reunite Brazil and Romania while Poland and Turkey will play for seventh. Guaranteed in the top ten, the Dominican Republic and Argentina are the candidates for ninth-place.
The 11th and 12th positions are between Thailand and Slovakia. Peru and Mexico will compete for the 13th place while Canada and Puerto Rico will compete for the 15th position.
Russia came out of the gate firing on all cylinders as they completely dominated Serbia in the first two sets. The third portion of the match was closer, but also ended with the Russians on top.
The winners of the 2015 and 2017 editions of the tournament, Italy also needed just three sets to prevail over defending champions the United State and make it to the final for a fourth-straight time.
