Three European teams stand on the way of defending champions United States in their attempt to retain the title of the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship after the conclusion of the quarterfinal round of the tournament in Durango, Mexico, on Monday.
European champions Russia and Serbia, which are set to clash in one of Tuesday’s semifinals, are two of them while Italy, the Americans’ next opponents, are the other. All four teams make it to the semifinals undefeated.
Russia vs Poland
Russia advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 2017 with a comfortable straight-set victory against fellow Europeans Poland.
Serbia vs Brazil
Serbia, which las made it to the final four ten years ago, showed power and mental toughness to knock three-time winners Brazil out in the quarterfinals in four sets.
Italy vs Romania
A finalist in the last three editions, Italy remain a force to be reckoned with in the age group as they’re back in the semifinals after a 3-0 win over Romania.
USA vs Turkey
The defending champions USA moved forward with no shortage of excitement again as for the second day in a row they prevailed in a five-setter, this time against Turkey.
