Serbia and Russia in the spotlight on day one of U18 Worlds

The Europeans start the tournament well

Serbia’s thrilling five-set victory against Poland and Russia’s block party against Slovakia were the highlights of the opening day of the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship in Durango, Mexico.

Pool A

Pool A started with a thriller as Serbia needed all five sets to come out on top of the all-European derby against Poland.

Pool B

Turkey and Peru started ahead in Pool B after the Europeans and South Americans won their opening matches in the tournament. The Turkish had a comfortable straight-set victory over the Dominican Republic while the Peruvians overcame a first-set loss to down Egypt 3-1.

Pool C

With a solid game at the net, which generated 45 (36 kills, nine blocks) of the team’s 75 points in the match, Romania topped Puerto Rico in the first match in Pool C.

Pool D

Russia benefited from an impressive 13 block points to prevail over Slovakia in the opening match of Pool D. Later, Argentina bounced back from a slow start to take Bulgaria down 3-1.
