Evropis Universiteti Tbilisi triumphed as women’s national snow volleyball champions of Georgia. They topped the Georgian Women’s National Snow Volleyball Championship podium in Bakuriani on Sunday, in the company of silver medalists Jiko Samtredia and bronze medalists UG Tbilisi.
Following the men’s competition held earlier at the same venue in the country’s snow volleyball “capital”, the Georgian Women’s National Snow Volleyball Championship was held from Friday to Sunday, offering more exciting snow battles at about 1,700 meters above sea level in the Trialeti mountains. The 14 participating teams were split into four round-robin pools for the first stage of the tournament, followed by the quarterfinals, the semifinals and the medal matches.
In Sunday’s gold medal showdown, Evropis Universiteti Tbilisi took out Jiko 1 Samtredia in dominant straight sets to claim the title and a 2,500 GEL share of the prize money. Jiko 1 settled for silver and a check for 2,000 GEL.
Just like in the men’s competition, the team of the University of Georgia – UG Tbilisi – picked up bronze. In the third-place game, they mastered a straight-set sweep against Jiko 2 Samtredia and earned a prize of 1,500 GEL.
32-year-old Irina Chelidze of the Evropis Universiteti national championship squad claimed the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
