The FIVB Medical Commission convened recently, bringing together leading medical experts to discuss key initiatives related to athlete health, safety and anti-doping. The meeting provided an opportunity for Commission members and FIVB leadership to review ongoing programmes and align on priorities under the FIVB Strategic Vision 2032.
The session opened with remarks from Commission President Dr Annie Peytavin, who reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting athletes, both with their physical and mental health.
“I want to reaffirm that, as a Commission, we are always here to support athletes so they can perform at their best from both a physical and a mental point of view,” she said.
During the meeting, the Commission reviewed the figures from the FIVB’s 2025 anti-doping programme, reflecting on the continued efforts to ensure a clean and fair sporting environment. Members also discussed the FIVB Strategic Vision 2032 and the role of the Medical Commission in contributing to its long-term objectives as it looks to grow the Global Volleyball Movement to 1.6 billion people, and make volleyball more accessible, understandable and affordable.
Updates were also shared on the work of dedicated Commission working groups. These included initiatives focused on athletes’ mental health and preparations for a future FIVB Medical Congress, aimed at strengthening knowledge sharing and collaboration across the sport’s medical community.
Further discussions covered the results of analyses conducted during competitions in 2025. The meeting concluded with closing remarks from Dr Peytavin, who thanked Commission members for their contributions and ongoing commitment to athlete wellbeing.
