It is with profound sadness that the FIVB received the news of the tragic passing of Hernan Gonzalo Casamiquela, an exceptional volleyball referee from Argentina, while in Brasilia, Brazil during his assignment as a Challenge referee at the Volleyball Nations League (VNL).
Hernan Gonzalo Casamiquela’s unwavering commitment and passion for volleyball made him a cherished figure among players, coaches and fellow officials alike.
Having begun his international refereeing career in 2007, Hernan Gonzalo Casamiquela refereed at many of the biggest events in volleyball, including the Volleyball Nations League, World Championships and the Olympic Games. He finished his active refereeing career at the women’s gold medal match at Tokyo 2020 and transitioned to the role of a Challenge referee.
His professionalism, integrity, and exceptional refereeing skills served as an inspiration to all who had the pleasure of working alongside him.
