The FIVB is shocked and extremely concerned by reports that several young volleyball players in Iran have been killed in the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East and wider region. We express our deepest sympathies to the families involved and all affected by this unfolding crisis.
Furthermore, many tens of thousands of our huge volleyball family in the region are being displaced and face a very uncertain future.
The FIVB’s focus now is to ensure the safety of all the volleyball athletes, coaches, staff and volunteers based in or visiting the region, and who are now caught up in the conflict.
The FIVB has set up a task force specifically to expedite this humanitarian work in real time, working with governments and NGOs and other relevant bodies.
The FIVB believes strongly in the importance of collaboration, dialogue, peace and solidarity. In line with these values, the FIVB calls on the international community to help de-escalate and seek a peaceful resolution.
