An unprecedented number of FIVB Volleyball Empowerment supported teams will feature at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships 2025 in Adelaide, Australia, from 14 to 23 November. More than USD 7.5 million in targeted investment has directly contributed to supporting athletes competing at this year’s event, highlighting the FIVB’s commitment to growing the sport and empowering the Global Volleyball Movement worldwide.
Of the 96 teams set to compete in Adelaide – 48 men’s and 48 women’s pairs representing 40 nations – an impressive 66 per cent have been supported through the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment programme. This includes 32 of the 48 men’s teams (67%) and 31 of the 48 women’s teams (65%), showcasing the extensive global reach and tangible impact of the FIVB’s initiative.
Launched in 2017, the Volleyball Empowerment programme has since invested over USD 50 million across nearly than 1,500 projects in 205 countries, delivering tailored support to help national teams and athletes elevate their game. This includes coach support, knowledge transfer and equipment provisions designed to strengthen performance and increase competitiveness across all five Continental Confederations.
The strong representation of Volleyball Empowerment teams in Adelaide demonstrates how strategic investment in the sport continues to deliver results on the world stage – a key part of the FIVB Strategic Vision 2032. By supporting athletes and National Federations, the FIVB is ensuring that athletes and teams from every region have the opportunity to develop, compete and succeed at the highest level.

The Adelaide 2025 World Championships, the 15th edition of the event, will be the largest beach volleyball competition ever held on Asian Volleyball Confederation territory and only the second World Championships to take place in the southern hemisphere. Over ten days of competition, 216 matches will be played – 108 per gender – as the world’s best athletes vie for the title of world champions.
