Germany enter the 2025 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Adelaide with one of the largest and most balanced contingents in the field. Their presence across both men’s and women’s draws highlights the consistent investment in elite performance and coaching that has made the German programme one of the most competitive in the world
Supported by USD 168,000 in FIVB Volleyball Empowerment funding for the period 2024–2026, Germany’s athletes are benefitting from a coordinated effort led by programme supervisor Christoph Dieckmann.
In the men’s draw, Olympic silver medallists Nils Ehlers & Clemens Wickler lead the German charge as established contenders on the Beach Pro Tour. The pair have maintained strong form since their podium finish at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, reaching several Elite16 semifinals this season and remaining among the world’s top pairs. They open their Adelaide campaign against Samuel Schachter & Jonathan Pickett of Canada, then meet José Alberto Mondlane & Osvaldo Mungoi of Mozambique before facing Tomás Capogrosso & Nicolás Capogrosso of Argentina in pool play.
Paul Henning & Lui Wüst continue to gain ground internationally through consistent performances across the European and Beach Pro Tour circuits. Their first match is against Juan Bautista Amieva Tarditti & Maciel Bueno Torres of Argentina, followed by encounters with Ruben Alejandro Mora Romero & Dany Antonio López Alvarado of Nicaragua and Evandro & Arthur Lanci of Brazil.
Meanwhile, Lukas Pfretzschner & Sven Winter have established themselves among Germany’s most promising teams, showing steady progress and strong chemistry on the court. In Adelaide, they begin against Christoph Dressler & Philipp Waller of Austria, then take on Wang Yanwei & Du Hongjun of China before closing pool play against Michal Bryl & Bartosz Łosiak of Poland.
On the women’s side, Svenja Muller & Cinja Tillmann arrive in Adelaide as one of Europe’s most in-form teams. The duo claimed gold at the Beach Pro Tour Elite16 in Cape Town in October and continue to establish themselves among the world’s elite. They begin their World Championship campaign against Brenda Ailen Churin & Morena Marisa Abdala of Argentina, followed by a meeting with Maria Claudia Gonzalez Valentin & Allanis Navas Sanchez of Puerto Rico before an all-German clash with Linda Bock & Louisa Lippmann in pool play.
Linda Bock & Louisa Lippmann have quickly become one of Germany’s most dynamic pairs, with Lippmann’s transition from the indoor national team adding valuable power and experience. They open against Maria Claudia Gonzalez Valentin & Allanis Navas Sanchez of Puerto Rico, then take on Brenda Ailen Churin & Morena Marisa Abdala of Argentina before facing teammates Svenja Muller & Cinja Tillmann in their final pool match.
Sandra Ittlinger & Anna-Lena Grune bring a balance of experience and youth to the German roster. After strong showings on the Beach Pro Tour this season, they aim for another deep run in Adelaide. Their first challenge comes against Lezana Placette & Alexia Richard of France, followed by matches against Vanessa Muianga & Mercia Mucheza of Mozambique and Terese Cannon & Megan Kraft of the United States.
Rounding out Germany’s women’s delegation are Melanie Paul & Lea Sophie Kunst, a young and determined pair who continue to gain valuable international experience through the Volleyball Empowerment programme. They start their campaign against Annique Niederhauser & Leona Kernen of Switzerland, then meet Taliqua Clancy & Jana Milutinovic of Australia before closing pool play against Wang Jingzhe & Xia Xinyi of China.
The Empowerment support has enabled a unified national system under Dieckmann, a former European champion and Olympian, who oversees the technical direction of Germany’s beach programme. His leadership ensures that coaching, sports science, and athlete management are aligned to international standards, allowing players to have high-performance training and competition.
This approach has produced visible results. Germany’s athletes are now regular finalists on the Beach Pro Tour and consistent medal contenders at major championships. The structure established through Empowerment funding has not only elevated top teams but also strengthened the transition of new pairs into world-class competition.
Germany’s breadth of talent stands as a reflection of what sustained support in coaching and player development can achieve. With seven teams across both genders, the country’s presence at the sport’s premier event is proof of an Empowered programme built for excellence and longevity.
