FIVB World Congress Charts New Course for Volleyball's Future
The 35th FIVB World Congress, held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 5th and 6th, 2016, was a pivotal event in the volleyball world. It brought together members from the global volleyball community to discuss the sport’s future, celebrate its successes, and plan for upcoming challenges.

Significant discussions also revolved around the future of volleyball, with strategic plans laid out for the 2017 Beach Volleyball World Championships in Austria, the 2018 Women’s World Championship in Japan, and the 2018 Men’s World Championship in Italy and Bulgaria.
Additionally, the congress addressed changes in rules and the election of FIVB’s Board of Administration and President. This gathering underscored the sport’s global unity and commitment to growth, inclusivity, and excellence.

35th FIVB World Congress 2016 Host City
The 35th FIVB World Congress in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was notably attended by significant local and government figures. The Minister of Tourism, Mr. José Gustavo Santos, welcomed delegates, emphasizing the link between tourism, sports, and peace in challenging times, and thanked the FIVB for choosing Argentina as the host.
Dr. Gerardo Werthein, President of Argentina’s National Olympic Committee and an IOC member, expressed pride in Buenos Aires hosting the 2018 Youth Olympic Games and recommended visiting the Olympic Village. Additionally, Mr. Carlos MacAllister, the Secretary of Sport, highlighted the importance of sport in preventing youth crime and expressed pride in hosting the FIVB Congress, acknowledging the efforts of Mr. Gutierrez and the Volleyball Federation of Argentina in promoting volleyball in schools and their commitment to a new program.
