Harassment and abuse presents an important risk to a player’s health, participation and performance. Everyone participating to any FIVB event has the right to be protected from non-accidental violence, harassment and abuse irrespective of their race, color, sex, sexual orientation, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth, disability, physical attributes, athletic ability or other status.

The FIVB is committed to providing a harassment-free environment and has implemented a legal framework to prevent and respond to incidents of non-accidental violence, harassment and abuse. The FIVB Safeguarding Policy is now part of the FIVB Disciplinary Regulations and any incident of harassment or abuse may lead to disciplinary sanctions. In line with the International Olympic Committee (IOC)’s Safeguarding Toolkit the FIVB has launched a mandatory Safeguarding E-learning Course to educate athletes, parents, coaches, medical personnel and FIVB officials on how to keep sport safe for all and know how to report cases of harassment and abuse.

All forms of harassment and abuse breach human rights and constitute criminal offenses. Therefore, it is a legal and moral duty of those who are responsible to organize sport to ensure that risks of non-accidental violence are identified and mitigated.
