Continental courses for volleyball and beach volleyball referees got underway on Friday in Puerto Rico, with the NORCECA-FIVB Regional Volleyball Development Centre in the Dominican Republic having launched an exciting activity plan for 2024.
The courses are under the patronage of the NORCECA-FIVB Regional Volleyball Development Centre and are run with support from the North, Central American and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) and the Federacion Puertorriquena de Voleibol (FPV). The 2024 activity plan includes a variety of courses for coaches, referees, and physical education teachers, who will have the opportunity to strengthen their knowledge, that they can implement in their countries.
The volleyball referee course is taking place at the Olympic housing facilities in San Juan with 18 participants, instructed by NORCECA Referee Commission president Guy Bradbury. Another 10 referees are attending the beach volleyball referee course, conducted by NORCECA Referee Commission’s beach volleyball coordinator Andre Trottier, at the courts in the city of Guayama. Both instructors are members of the FIVB Rules of the Game and Refereeing Commission.
These courses demonstrate the work being completed by NORCECA and the Development Centre in preparing referees for officiating at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, set to take place in the Dominican Republic.
FPV President Cesar Trabanco expressed his pleasure at hosting the workshops and thanked the NORCECA President Cristobal Marte for the opportunity.
“I am pleased with the confidence that NORCECA has placed in the Puerto Rican Federation to host these important courses, with referees from 14 member countries in our Confederation participating. We are committed to supporting the Development Centre in organising more training sessions like these,” Trabanco said.
